The Ansley-Litchfield Spartans could breathe a bit easier following a nail-biter last Thursday night. In the championship game of the D2-7 Subdistrict Tournament in Litchfield, Ansley-Litchfield notched their third win of the season over Sumner-Eddyville-Miller (SEM) The two squads battled back and forth until SEM took a late 50-45 lead. Then the Spartans caught fire. Ansley-Litchfield senior Bailey drove the lane for two points, then a Mustang free throw brought the tally to 51-47 with just over a minute left. Landon Schulte responded with his biggest three-pointer of the season, trimming the deficit to one point with 1:08 left. Over the final minute of play, Bailey knocked down four straight foul shots, completing a 9-1 run to come away with the 54-51 win. Bailey led all scorers with twenty-three points to go along with eleven total rebounds while Schulte and Chayten Jensen scored eleven and ten points, respectively. Prior to playing the Mustangs, Ansley-Litchfield had opened postseason play with a 60-17 victory over Elba on Tuesday night.
