The Ashton Volunteer Fire Department is hosting their annual pancake feed Sunday morning.

Hiland Dairy presented Loup City Schools a $1,500 check. The school earned the honor in the “Over 300 Cartons” 7th-12th grade sculpture category. Loup City seventh grade art teacher Mrs. Deb Miller was pictured with members of the art class and the sculpture.

The family of Dale Lewandowski requested a card shower to honor his eightieth birthday.

The Arcadia High School FFA welding team of wire welder Trey Lewandowski, O/A welder Tanner Chilewski, and stick welder Cohen Lewandowski qualified for the state contest in April.

The Loup City High School novice speech team won the Raider Invitational Speech Meet. The team has no first place winners but most of the team placed in a number of events.

The engagement photo and announcement of the upcoming wedding of Kelsie Mingus and Rastus Snow led the social news page.

Carl Dethlefs and Sons will be holding their Forty-Seventh Production Sale Friday. 160 head of registered Angus will be sold.

Bill Murphy was pictured with his son William working on a “knob” puzzle which is “great fun for little children as it makes it easier to take pieces in and out. The Murphy’s were attending a CNCS Sixpence socialization program.

United States Congressman Tom Osborne is slated to speak at the Loup City Area Chamber of Commerce President’s Banquet. The theme of the banquet is “A small town with a big heart.”

The Wiggle Creek 49er’s club members were pictured taking discarded Christmas trees to the Sherman Dam where they will be used to create fish habitat. The club was also honored on NTV with a certificate noting the clubs food drive box they had set up in Joe’s Market. Club members pictured were Nathan and Nick Baker, Michelle Kringle, Jacob and Jared Larchick, Ben and Alexis Bauhard, Morgan McDonald, Ryan Elsner, and Bobby Smedra.

Reid McConnell was one of twenty-nine seniors in the LouPlatte Conference schools to be awarded a gold medal for his high ACT score.

Mayor Don Iske appointed Milt Walrath to fill the council vacancy left when he was elected mayor.

Loup City Area Chamber of Commerce representative Janelle Mostek met with the city council to request they designate a Loup City-wide clean-up date. The council voted to select a committee to meet with a chamber of commerce committee to formulate a plan.

Shirley Kaslon and Angie Cronin were named Rose Lane Home Employees of the Month.

Ernestine Palu was honored with a special open house Sunday afternoon at St. Josaphat’s Parish Hall to honor her eightieth birthday.

St. Josaphat’s Catholic Church US group member Jon Jaeschke presented a $247 check to CNCS representatives Cheryl Holcomb and Janet Kosmicki. The money was raised at the “Souper Bowl” meal the youth group sponsored where people attending were urged to donate either $1 or a can of soup to the local food pantry.

The Village of Arcadia proceeding reported Bill Garrelts, Rod Sell, Jean Gartside, Dale Paider, and Torey Emery to the Arcadia Housing Authority.

March 1, 1995

The Loup City High School FFA agriculture sales team of Jessica Hurt, Joe Badura, and Todd Dzingle earned first place at the FFA district contest held at Central Community College in Grand Island.

The Lady Trojans earned a state basketball tournament berth defeating Callaway 57-29 at the D-1 District. Meg Wilson scored seventeen points and Mandy Axman sixteen points.

The Raider speech team won their own Raider Invitational Speech Meet Saturday besting fifty-three other teams. Joe Badura earned a gold in humorous prose and another gold with teammate David Young in duet acting.

A big ad announced a cost of twelve dollars for a round trip to the Rose Bud Casino on March 20th.

Cal Einspahr rolled a 212 game to lead the men in the Sunday Night Mixed League action.

Cary Burkhart took out an ad, “Custom sewing. Mending and alterations.”

The members of the Litchfield High School senior class appeared before the school board to request permission for them to take a senior trip. The board took no action. In other board action, the board accepted with regret the resignation of Ron Siegel.

The Mason City news reported February 25th was a most unusual weather day. The low in the morning was eighteen yet by afternoon the temperature had reached eighty.

Jennifer Sweley was third in the 10-11 age bracket at the State Elks Hoop Shoot held in Kearney.

February 28, 1985 George McFadden was elected president of the Loup City Development Committee at the annual meeting Thursday evening at the Colony Club. Jim Brown replaced Jim Kuehl on the board of directors.

A special seventhand eighth-grade Loup City Schools honor choir will perform at the Tuesday evening concert held in observance of “Music in our Schools” month. Members of the choir are Rita Klein, Vicki Ksionzek, Pam Krolikowski, Joseph Peterson, Amy Gallaway, Nicole McCartney, Melissa Jacobs, John Friesen, Raider Acher, Jeff Weides, and Kerry Kowalski.

The Trojan boys defeated Arcadia 39-32 to win the sub-district. The lady Trojans defeated Eustis 51-35 to win the district and advance to the state basketball tournament. Barb and Linda Wilson led scoring with eighteen and twelve points, respectively.

Princess Melissa Arnold and Prince Russell Kulwicki are the “Pennies for Heart” royalty. Russell collected 4,025 pennies and Brent Wentz 3,675. 164 pounds of pennies were collected totaling $326 which will be donated to the American Heart Association.

A son, Adrian Eddie, was born to Mr. and Mrs. Lavern Oseka on Thursday.

Brad Howard advertised he was selling his 1971 red and black Mustang automatic with a 350 motor.

Mrs. Elmer Kohls entertained a supper Sunday evening in honor of Mrs. Bernice Randolph’s birthday.

The Lithchfield Farmers Union bowling team of Captain Ruth Epley, Janet Fletcher, Robbie Siegel, LuAnn Unick, Pat Kieborz and Karen Connick finished in second place at the Women’s State Bowling Tournament held at North Platte.

A hay fire at the Hugo Mullenhoff farm interrupted a special meal for the Mason City firemen and EMTs and their wives sponsored by the Mason City Rural Fire Board.

February 27, 1975 UNL announced Loup City High School senior Zoe Cherry is the 1975 Regents Scholarship winner.

Mrs. Lois Johnson and Mrs. Margaret Erdmann are searching out unmarked graves in Sherman and northern Buffalo County.

Chuck Newberry and Cindy Dethlefs were crowned Loup City High School Sweetheart Dance royalty at the dance Saturday night.

John Obermiller earned a runner-up trophy at the Midwest Gold Gloves Tournament of Champions in Omaha. Arnie Augustyn did not get to compete because of a misunderstanding of the Omaha tournament director. Both boxers were pictured in their championship jackets with Loup City Boxing Team coach Ralph Obermiller.

Loup City High School wrestler Terry Eurek (105) and Mike Lindgren (HWT) qualified for the state wrestling tournament.

Ninety-seven units of blood were collected at the Red Cross Bloodmobile. Gallon pins were earned by Robert Lutz and Earl Norseen. Debbie Griffiths, Dean Jonak, and Ray Schachta were first time donors.

A son, William Jakob, was born last Thursday to Mr. and Mrs. Donald Ference. He weighed seven pounds, one ounce.

A large ad by Ericson Ford announced Russ Bonsall has joined the businesses body shop team.

A Sunday dinner was held at the Jerry Jarzynka home to celebrate Jason’s first birthday. Helping him celebrate were his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Bob Roberts and Mr. and Mrs. Paul Janulewicz, and his aunt, Mrs. Sam Hancock.

The Trojan boys are now 15-1 after defeating Amherst 87-72. Mick Unick was high scorer with twenty points.

The Litchfield village trustees voted to accept Wilbur LeSuer, Bob Siebe, and Ralph Carmen as new members of the Litchfield Volunteer Fire Department.

March 5, 1965

Loup City High School teacher and coach Cliff Hermance, advanced math teacher Gale Barnes, and fifth grade teacher James Leibert submitted letters of resignation to the Loup City School Board.

Joe Jablonski and Jaci Tucker are Loup City Boys and Girls State representatives.

Loup City Boy Scouts pancake supper organizer Ken Cook said between 250 and 300 people were fed Friday evening. The scouts used forty-four pints of syrup, fifty-two pounds of pancake flour, eleven gallons of milk, ten pounds of butter, 100 pounds of sausage, and four pounds of coffee.

The Sherman County National Farmer Organization elected Rolland Hughes as the 1965 president. Other officers and board members elected were Gene Badura, Al Augustyn, and Ted Golus.

Mr. and Mrs. Adam Kieborz were honored on their fifty-eighth wedding anniversary with a Sunday dinner at the Roy Sweley home. Mrs. John Schweitzer baked and decorated the three tiered cake. Many friends and neighbors called on the couple later that afternoon.

Loup City Lions Club president Jim Kowalski reported O.S. “Bus” Mason has been nominated by the district to be a candidate for the Lions Club of Nebraska president.

A surprise birthday party was held Monday evening by friends and neighbors of Vic Howard on her birthday.

Ray’s Market advertised a tall can of Anchors Aweigh pink salmon for forty-nine cents.
