ARCADIA/LOUP CITY WRESTLING Arcadia/Loup City ends regular season on home mats
The Arcadia/Loup City Rebels were hoping to capitalize on any advantage they found from competing on their home mats on Friday; however, the Rebels were hamstrung by the level of competition that made its way to Loup City last week.
Two wrestlers—Wyatt Stieb and Logan Spotanski—fought their way into the medals at the Rebels’ annual invitational. Stieb paced the team by winning a gold medal, while Spotanski finished in third. Together, the Rebels’ medalists scored thirty-seven points, which was a majority of the forty points banked by the boys last week.
Arcadia/Loup City finished their home invitational sitting in eleventh. The Rebels bested teams from Centura and Ainsworth, while South Loup ended up in tenth at the thirteen- team meet with forty-two points.
St. Paul won the team title on Friday. The Wildcats notched 152 points for the gold. Gibbon came in second with 113, while the boys from Wood River, Neligh-Oakdale, and Kearney Catholic rounded out the top five.
Stieb had just two matches on Friday.
The Rebel pinned Ikaiah Edgren of Wood River in the second period in the semifinals at 190 and then beat Chase Thomas of Neligh-Oakdale 8-1 for the gold medal.
Spotanski competed four times on his home mat. The Rebel pinned Parker Lewis of North Central to begin the day, but lost a 19-4 to Colton Kelley of Kearney Catholic. Kelley is undefeated at 144-pounds this winter. In the consolation bracket, the Rebel took down Wyatt Fauss of Twin River and earned a 20-2 tech fall over Sam Titus of Ainsworth in the bronze-medal match.
Joining Spotanski and Stieb on the mats on Friday were Austin Conner, Joseph Ducker, and Markus Bester. Of those three, both Conner and Bester ended up one win shy of some hardware.
At 150, Conner lost his second match of the meet to Mason Painter of Ainsworth, while Bester was denied a trip of the podium by Chase Geweck of North Central. The Knight pinned the Rebel in twenty-five seconds.
This week, the Rebels are scheduled to compete at the District D-3 meet, which will be hosted by Central Valley at the high school in Greeley.
